Salivary Gland Infections
Salivary gland infections often occur in the parotid and submandibular glands, which are located in the cheeks. Salivary glands are also located in the bottom of the mouth, under and at the base of the tongue, and in the lips. Symptoms can include dry mouth, a bad taste in the mouth, pain, pus, and swelling.

Salivary Gland Tumors
Salivary Gland Tumors occur when abnormal cells develop in the salivary glands and start to divide and grow. Parotid and submandibular tumors are often benign, but cancer is always a possibility. As a result, swelling, pain and abnormal lumps should always be thoroughly examined by a doctor.

Salivary Stones
Salivary stones are created when saliva calcifies or crystalizes. When this happens, saliva is not able to leave the duct and backs up, causing swelling, pain, and infection. The parotid and submandibular glands are most often involved.
Salivary stones are typically asymptomatic until they become large enough to block the duct. Once the duct is blocked, typical complaints include foul taste, pain, drainage, and swelling.
